Saturday June 17th will be a day trip to the recently opened National Memorial Arboretum Remembrance Centre at Alrewas.
The loose itinerary for the day will be as follows:
9-9.30am Guests to make their own way to the NMA, Croxhall Road, Alrewas, DE13 7AR. Time for coffee/refreshments.
10-11.30am Presentation by Michael Cruise of Glenn Howells Architects about the building in the Founder's Room followed by guided tour of building and Heroes' Square.
11.30am-1pm (optional) The tour will end in the Interpretation Space. This is a highly recommended permanent exhibition entitled 'Landscapes of Life' which tells the story about the history of Remembrance. An audio guide interpreting 93 of the memorials on site is included in the ticket price for Landscapes of Life. We have been offered a special rate of £5.75 for this ticket for those who book in advance. The cost for those wishing to pay on the day is £7.50.
1-2pm - Lunch in the restaurant. Menu includes homemade soup, roast lunches, hot dishes of the day, vegetarian options and a fresh salad bar. Those wishing to bring a packed lunch are welcome to do so and eat in the grounds.
2pm Land Train Visit around Arboretum (optional) - The Arboretum’s Land Train is the perfect way to enjoy the 150-acre site. The 50-minute journey will provide you with lovely views across the landscape and will introduce you to some of the 300 plus memorials. Highlights en route include the Shot at Dawn Memorial, The Polish Armed Forces Memorial, The RAF Remembrance Garden and views across the Naval Review.
Those wishing to book an advance ticket for the land train can do so for £4.50. Tickets are £5 on the day.
3-5pm Walk around Arboretum at leisure (with audio guide if purchased)
This is a joint trip with North Staffordshire Society of Architects.
