Though 2016 was a quiet year for this group, we are now looking ahead to 2017 and have some great ideas in the pipeline. The ideas session was kicked off with our 2016 Christmas social, where it was good to catch up with others after what has been a busy year for most people.
Our AGM was held on Tuesday 7th February at 7.30pm at the Marwood. Emily Kippen (KKE Architects) was re-elected as Chair, with Phil Kavanagh (KKE Architects) as Secretary and Kevin Davis (DJD Architects) taking the role of Treasurer. Thank you to Anthony Clerici for his dedication to the role for the last 4 years. The AGM was a great an opportunity to consolidate the ideas for 2017 and make a plan for the year ahead.
The main focus for this year is to run a local awards programme. This will help us to raise the profile of architects and architecture locally. We're really excited about this initiative and, the programme is to be confirmed in the next month or so.
Watch this space for up coming events, and please get in touch if you have any ideas for what we could do, or want to get involved!
Our next meeting, to programme the awards, will be Tuesday 7th March 2017 @ 7.30pm. Venue TBC
Following a dormant period this group reformed in 2013, with David Greenhill (Vivid Architects) as Chair. That year we held a successful pop-up shop in Worcester during Love Architecture week, where local Practices displayed their work and members of the public were invited to tea with an Architect. Since then we have held a series of building visits and talks, which have been well attended, including:
a visit to Tudor Grange Academy with Kier (Worcester);
a visit to Kings School award-winning Boat House with John Christophers (Worcester);
a visit to the restoration of the Master's House with Speller Metcalfe and Butler Hegarty (Ledbury);
an update on changes to the planning system, including Permitted Development Rights and the NPPF, with McLoughlin Planning;
a day trip to Oxford to see both St Catz and Niall McLaughlin's Bishop Edward King Chapel;
a "Retrofit Ramble" which took in several retrofit projects in Worcester with talks from the Architects (DJD & KKE)
a visit to the Kings School Keyes Building (Worcester) with AA;
a day trip to Manchester during their "Manchester Curious" event in September.
